Google Talk Plugin

Google Talk Plugin lets you video chat right from Gmail, iGoogle, and Orkut. Look and sound your best with high quality audio and video. Getting started is -- all you need is a webcam.

Since sometimes reading "lol" doesn't deliver the same punch as actually hearing your friend laugh at your jokes, you can now use voice and video capabilities in your Google Chat properties (i.e Gmail, Google+, orkut). From within these services, you can have an actual conversation with someone (seriously, out loud), or even chat face to face over video.

Here's what you'll need to get started:

• Download the voice and video chat plug-in, quit all open browser windows, and install the plug-in.
• Sign in to Gmail, Google+, iGoogle, orkut, or your Chrome OS device.

If your friend doesn't have a camera next to their name in your chat list, you can invite them to download the voice and video chat plug-in from the Video & more menu in a chat window. Even if your friend doesn't have a video camera, you can still have a voice chat or a 1-way video chat.

Note: The download is still 5.40.2.0, but it will auto-update to version 5.41.0.0 if you haven't changed Google's auto-update feature (KSFETCH).

If you have changed KSFETCH, you can reset it to update your software once per day by typing the following command in Terminal and pressing the Return key to accept it....defaults write com.google.Keystone.Agent checkInterval 86400"86400" is the update interval in seconds. You can control update frequency by changing this to the desired value. Concomitantly, you can disable KSFETCH by entering "0" (zero).
